Fernando Brazier, 28, left a note at the front desk of the hotel, where he had spent the first night with his new wife, telling her where his body could be found.
He was then seen leaving the Radisson Hotel in New Rochelle, New York around 9am on Sunday and climbing into a taxi.
He was discovered at the bottom of the Harlem River near Roberto Clemente State Park around 3pm, according to police sources.
Calls to the coroner went unanswered today. A cause of death has yet to be confirmed but it is believed there were no signs of foul play.
His new bride, 26-year-old Trudian Hay, identified her husband's body with his mother Paula Brazier-Weeks.
Her family described the young mother, a college graduate, as 'distraught'.
Mr Brazier's sister Shawna Weeks told the New York Post: 'He said [in the note] he couldn't take it anymore, and to take care of the kids.
'He left his ring in the envelope.'
Police sources believe that the man leapt from a building or the promenade behind it at 55 Richman Plaza in the Bronx.
The couple had been together since they were teenagers and had two daughters aged five and two.
Mr Brazier was reportedly suffering from depression for several months and had counselling with his fiancee.
Ms Weeks also told the Post: 'He would tell me that Trudy was a good person [but] he didn't want to marry her; he was feeling like he was pressured.'
Mr Brazier, who worked as a night security guard and was studying to be a nurse, had divorced parents and wanted to give his children a stable home.
During their wedding reception on Saturday evening, relatives said Mr Brazier looked happy and not at all distressed as he danced with his wife and daughters.
The following morning Mr Brazier said he was 'going out for a walk'. When he didn't return his wife was told by a receptionist that he had left in a taxi and passed her the note.
New Rochelle police were called to the hotel at 10:40am and issued an alert for a missing person.

Staff at the Riverview confirmed to MailOnline that the couple held their wedding reception at the venue but would give no further details.
