KANYE WEST was 'killed off' on Twitter today as fake rumours emerged the star had died in a car crash. 'RIP Kanye West' has become the top trending topic on the social networking site, and the phrase 'Kanye West Dead' was the top search trend on Google last night.
The rapper - who does not have a Twitter account - is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a social networking death hoax, which have also targeted Scrubs actor Zach Braff, Jeff Goldblum, Britney Spears and George Clooney.
But the hot topic comes after a beleaguered Kanye was slammed for a bizarre outburst at the MTV Music Awards during which he ran up to award-winning artist Taylor Swift and snatched the microphone.
He later apologised for the outburst. And in a strange twist - which fans are speculating could have fuelled the hoax - a clip from an 11-minute short film directed by Spike Jonze appeared briefly on Kanye's official website on Monday, in which the singer stabs himself with a sword.
Twitter posts are still flooding in to the microblogging site with mixed responses to the topic. One user wrote: "Crazy people in this world. I don't care if you don't like Kanye West but making something up like RIP Kanye West is SICK."Another added: "You'll never be forgiven for what you did to Taylor Swift."To which Kanye fan Tweeted in reponse: "That's so horrible. Everybody makes mistakes - get over it."
